How to Take a New York Vacation to New Orleans or Miami Using Points

Being from Florida, we’re always looking to escape to warmer weather as soon as it starts getting colder up here in New York, and one of our favorite destinations is Miami Beach. We’re heading down to Art Basel again this year and can’t wait to take in the sunshine and beach vibes.

New Orleans is also an amazing escape from New York, and we even spent one of Wei’s birthdays in The Big Easy and had a blast.

For today’s points and miles request, we were able to score a roundtrip flight to New Orleans for just 25k miles and a roundtrip to Miami for 38k, both of which we scored during that super competitive Christmas break period.

If you want to take a flight with points, fill out our Free Dream Trip: Free Credit Card Consultation, and you will see your report produced just like this one.

Our Recommendation

We’ve got two trips to two warm weather destinations, each of which is broken down below to help you redeem for the least amount of points.

The flight from New York to Miami clocks in around $600.

New York to Miami

Using Delta miles, we were able to find a 4 night stay in Miami for 38k miles roundtrip. The flights get more expensive if you fly on key dates and cheaper if you only pop down for a couple of nights. The key is working their award calendar and being flexible with travel dates to get the best deal.

New York to New Orleans

Flights to New Orleans are a lot cheaper, clocking in around $300. For this particular flight, my recommendation would be to pay with cash, but if you want to use your points, it’s another great option. You could redeem directly on the Chase Rewards portal at $.0125 per point, which is about the same value as if you transfer points.

How to Book This Flight With Points

Chase is a transfer partner of United, and to book the roundtrip flight to New Orleans, it’s 25k per person.

American Express is a transfer partner of Delta, and for the roundtrip flight, it’s just 38k miles.

How to Get 60k More Chase Points

Based on the current cards you have, our recommendation is to get the Chase Sapphire Preferred Credit Card, which has an 60k sign up bonus when you spend $4,000 within the first 3 months, easily enough points for a roundtrip flight to New Orleans.

How to Get 60k More Amex Points

Based on the current cards you have, our recommendation is to get The Platinum Card from American Express, which has an 60k sign up bonus after you spend $5,000 within the first 3 months, easily enough points for a round trip flight to Miami. The Amex Platinum also gives you and a guest access to the amazing Centurion Lounge in LGA.
