How to Fly from Miami to Melbourne, Australia in Business Class for Just 200k Miles

Australia is one of those places that has still eluded us. We once went to Thailand twice in a 3 month period, but we have never made it to Australia. Thanks to a request from one of y’all, we’ve got an amazing sweet spot redemption where you can fly from Miami/Ft. Lauderdale down to Melbourne in Business Class for just 200k miles, and with flights costing near $7,000, this gives us $.035 per point.

If you want to take a flight with points, fill out our Free Dream Trip: Free Credit Card Consultation, and you will see your report produced just like this one.

Our Recommendation

We started our search on Google Flights and found a couple carriers offering one-stop Business Class to Melbourne:

  • American
  • Qantas
  • LATAM

So from here, we went onto those sites to find the least amount of points (and the best availability for booking).

200k United Miles

Our best redemption we found with the highest likelihood of booking with the most availability was United Airlines.

The flight date is in 2021, so it’s hard to accurately forecast, but based on flight availability for September 2020, we found a 1-stop flight for 360k miles.

After playing with the departure dates, we were also able to find a flight for just 200k miles with 1-stop.

Since this flight is so far in advance, and bookings are generally open to be reserved about 300 days in advance, our advice is to start searching for availability 300 days out. If you can be flexible with your departure date, that’s how you can score the 160k point saving.

We also found a flight on AA for just 80k miles in Business Class, but it has 2-stops which can turn this into a hectic flight.

We couldn’t find any flights on Alaska Airlines with 1-stop, but we did find a 2-stop flight in Business Class for just 120k miles.

Transfer Chase Points to United to Book

To book your flight, you’ll need United points, but before you transfer to United, you want to ensure the flight is available.

Transferring points from Chase to United can take up to 24 hours, so if you’re risk-averse, you can lock in the award availability on United for a nominal fee while you wait for your points to transfer.

How to Get 100k Chase Points

Based on the current cards you have, our recommendation is to get the Chase Ink Business Preferred Credit Card, which has an 100k sign up bonus, after you spend $15k in the first 3 months,, easily enough points for a 2 roundtrip flights in the US with bonus points left over.
