I Love Custom Shirts and Here Are The 7 Tweaks I Make to All My Shirts

If you know me at all, you’ve probably heard me talk about my wardrobe a time or two. I prefer to keep a minimalist closet with just a few select items I can wear and re-wear over and over again.

This means I’m a stickler for high quality clothes that fit me perfectly. There is absolutely no comparison between having 100 “okay” fitting shirts or 10 shirts that fit like Cinderella’s glass slipper. Because of this, I like to get my dress shirts tailor made for my body.

I know what you’re probably thinking – Getting a shirt tailored is a lot of work. Just a few years ago, you would have been correct. But thanks to the world wide web, tailoring custom shirts has never been easier. Before we go any further, here are a few reasons why you should look into getting a few custom shirts:

Why should I get custom shirts?

When you purchase a shirt off the rack, you are essentially guessing your size and hoping for the best. It is entirely possible that the shirt you purchase will fit you, but the real question to ponder is how well it will fit.

With custom shirts, tailors hand cut fabric according to your exact measurements and stitch it together just for you. This shirt is yours, not intended for any random person who happens upon it in a clothing store. More often than not, superior quality materials are used in making custom shirts. From Egyptian cotton and beyond, you’ll never have to fuss over the poor quality of your clothing again.

Few companies create shirts tailor made for your body better than Vitruvien, so we are going to focus on their easy online ordering process.

How do I order a custom shirt online?

Get started by going to Vitruvien’s easy to navigate website. From here, you’ll be asked to choose your fabric selection.

Choose between Cotton, Linen, Linen Cotton, Egyptian Giza Cotton, 2/120’s Egyptian Giza Cotton, and 2/140’s Egyptian Giza Cotton. Once you’ve chosen the shirt that you want to purchase, you will be brought to the Customization screen. This is where you choose color and print.

This is where the fun part begins! Here’s what you can customize and what the customization options are:

Sleeve

You can choose between short sleeved, long sleeved, and rolled. The website even details what looks go best for which events, so you can rest assured that you won’t be over or under dressed depending on the occasion if you follow their advice.

Collars

You can customize your collar with 14 unique options. Don’t forget to customize your collar stiffness as well, so the shirt is perfectly tailored for you.

Cuffs

Three cuff options, all with their own distinctive style.

Placket

There are five placket options to choose from, though the two tuxedo options will require an extra cost.

Pocket

Depending on the shirt style, you may want to adjust the front pocket. You can choose  between round, square, angled, v-shape, and a flap.

Back Details

It’s up to you whether or not you want back pleats at all. If you do, you’re able to choose between box pleats and side pleats.

Bottom Cut

Last but certainly not least, you are able to customize the bottom cut of your shirt between rounded and straight.

Once that’s all taken care of, you can either customize the color and design of buttons you want on your shirt or opt for the designer default, which is what the shirt would normally come with.

Most shirts cost between $50 and $100, which means they’re actually pretty on par with what you would pay retail for a quality shirt. The best part is that you took the time to make it yourself, so you’ll never have to settle again.
