She participated in various music-related contests, including the Mamaia Music Festival, winning various awards.

Alexandra Stan Biography

She is a Romanian singer. Her career began in 2009 when native music producers Marcel Prodan and Andrei Nemirschi heard her singing at a Karaoke bar and proposed her a contract with their own management, Maan Studio. She subsequently released her debut recording “Lollipop” in late 2009.  The song and its video were met with bad reviews, being criticised for their eroticism.

Her next single, “Mr. Saxobeat” a dance song featuring saxophones, was composed by Marcel Prodan and Andrei Nemirschi, the duo that discovered her at the Mamaia Music Festival. It became her worldwide breakthrough hit, selling 1,000,000 copies in less than a year. The single went to number one in a total of nine countries and reached the top ten in over thirty countries, such as New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Australia. It became a top-thirty hit in Canada and the United States. It remains her only UK Top 40 single. She released her debut album in August 2011, entitled Saxobeats, which reached the top thirty album charts in several European countries, including Germany, Austria and Finland. The record spawns her next single “Get Back (ASAP)”, which gained success in several more countries, notably in Romania, Finland and France.

Stan released “Lemonade” as the lead single from her then-upcoming studio album. The song charted majorly in more European countries and was certified Gold by the Federation of the Italian Music Industry. She then released “Cliche (Hush Hush)” and “All My People”, the latter being a top-twenty hit in Japan. Her second studio album was due to be released in summer 2013, but was delayed due to Stan being assaulted by her ex-manager and boyfriend Marcel Prodan after an argument about her revenues. She appeared on several Romanian TV channels with a swollen face and eyes. Stan and Prodan met for the first time face to face at a court in Constanța on June 4. Stan’s second studio album was finally released on August 27, 2014 exclusively in Japan, under the label Victor Entertainment. Entitled Unlocked, it reached number twenty-one in the Japanese album chart and number one in the iTunes chart after just few hours. “Dance” and “Cherry Pop” were the record’s lead singles, which became popular in Asia after their successes in Japan. Unlocked was released worldwide on November 24, 2014. The international edition included the song “Vanilla Chocolat”, which features guest vocals by Connect-R.

Shortly after launching her debut single, she appeared on many Romanian radio stations and television shows. Her second single, “Mr. Saxobeat”, became a number-one hit and topped many international charts for a number of weeks. During an interview in November 2010, Stan stated that she believes in God and she has her own religious principles, claiming herself as a “untraditional Christian”.

Stan premiered a music video for her debut single entitled “Lollipop (Param Pam Pam)” on December 16, 2009. The song received heavy airplay on mainstream German radio stations in early 2010, with an addition to Germany’s A-list in May 2010, but only reached the top twenty in her native country. The music video was labelled as being too erotic and received mostly negative reviews. In September 2010, she released “Mr. Saxobeat”, which quickly became her most successful single in Romania, peaking at number one on the Romanian Top 100 and remaining number one for eight consecutive weeks. It was also commercially successful wordwide, becoming a number-one hit in nine countries and becoming immensely popular in sixteen, including Spain, United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, Australia, Denmark and Sweden. It was the first Romanian song to chart ahead the German Singles Chart after “Dragostea din tei” in 2004.

In June 2012, Alexandra Stan released a new single called “Lemonade”; the music video was released on YouTube on 4 June. The video received over 29 million views on YouTube and the song charted in more European countries like Turkey, Bulgaria and Czech Republic, as well as Japan. “Cliche (Hush Hush)” was released 27 September 2012, but was not as popular as “Lemonade”. Before the scandal with her Manager Prodan, Stan released the single “All My People”, a massive radio hit in Italy.

In 2012, Stan won a European Border Breaker award.

In spring 2014, Stan was sued by both Marcel Prodan and Andrei Nemirschi for copyright infringement. According to them, she performed songs such as “Mr. Saxobeat” or “Lemonade” without their permission. On June 15, 2014, Stan won the right to perform their songs, but lost the copyright for photos of her taken by Andrei Nemirschi.[18][19] Stan and Prodan met face-to-face at the court in Constanța on June 4, 2015 for the first time since the assault. Prodan claimed that Stan wanted to commit suicide by throwing herself from the car, but Stan asserted she was trying to escape the beating she received from Prodan. Prodan explained that Stan did not want to leave the studio, and slipped on the wet floor and was knocked unconscious after Prodan tried to push her towards the exit. Prodan then stated that he carried her to his car and wanted to drive her home, but she kicked him, and he slapped her, allegedly in self-defence. Stan denied claims of suicidal intentions, stating that she “pulled the steering wheel easily, not with the intention to kill [herself], but with the intention to calm down.”

“Thanks For Leaving”, was released on 28 April 2014 as a promotional single from her second album, and was the first song released since her reissued album in 2013.
