One of the French luxury brands with the richest history especially in leather goods, accessories, bags and their signature travel luggage – Louis Vuitton showed a strong menswear collection this past Fashion Week in Paris. It`s very gentleman like, with a rich color palette with lots of deep blues, some beige and bronze, eggplant purple, burgundy and inevitable black, that was supposedly inspired by designer`s Kim Jones research trip to Atacama desert in Chile.
Vuitton is shaped in a clean silhouette, with the luxurious textiles in the foreground. Drawing from the native Chilean and Peruvian culture, Jones used alpaca and vicuña as one of the materials for the collection. In the contrast with sleek silk the styling looks balanced and brings diversity to the runway.
Apart for the mandatory suits, the puffed jackets, oversized coats, cashmere sweaters and hiking inspired boots really round up the theme. Long scarfs are a great addition to the metropolitan look. Although the tailoring doesn`t bring as much excitement as the color palette and the textiles, there are still some shapes that make the Louis Vuitton man less classic and more contemporary. We`ve noticed the past few seasons the cuts are going from slim-fit to wide again. It`s something that Jones discretely translated to the autumn/winter 14 collection.
There has to be something said about the bags as well, they are an essential Vuitton accessory. This season a collection called “Damier Cobalt” presents the timeless pieces of luxury in blue hues. The versatile bags are both sophisticated and trendy. Just like the rest of the Louis Vuitton collection.
