The Butler’s Closet is a website site offering sharp and conscientious dressers garment bags made from 100 percent percale and woven to textile conservator specifications. The site’s creator, Barbara Harman spent years researching how best to preserve her high-end clothing during the off-season, or as she waited for the clothes to come back into vogue. Plastic dry cleaning bags or even specialty store garment bags were out of the question as they are petroleum-based, give off fumes, trap moisture and can cause fabrics to yellow.
Not finding such an item, Harman created The Butler’s Closet, where people can get exactly the right bag that breathes, is chemical free and contains no dyes or bleaches–keeping fine garments safely preserved. Inspired by the tradition of butlers who ran vast estates during the Edwardian era—think Carson from Downton Abbey—The Butler’s Closet’s beautifully tailored bags protect clothing from light, dust, and insects. Harman did not stop with the garment bag. The Butler’s Closet also features luxury flannel shoe bags, English horn brushes and furniture covers.
