Threadmason – Making Shirts From The Ground Up

Threadmason is a new men’s clothing company that launched last year and they’ve tackled one of the biggest monsters in men’s fashion: T-shirts. A good T-shirt is like a towel, you need to have one, if you don’t have one people will look at you oddly and never come over. Take it from us: Threadmason is the best place to get your next towel, *ahem* T-shirt.

Why Threadmason Is Different:

What separates these guys from other shirt manufacturers is their sizing method. No longer are you a small, medium or large. Instead, after using Threadmason’s sizing tool you are the proud owner of a new, cryptic size; replete with unfamiliar numbers and letters. To the untrained eye it looks complicated, like smoke and mirrors to make you think you’re doing something new and different. Fear not consumer, you haven’t been had, the size has real meaning. We’ll explain:

Sizing

Threadmason sizing works on three levels: the chest, torso, and length of the shirt. After crunching numbers from three simple measurements the Threadmason machine builds a size that fits you well all over, not just one place. Life, Tailored founder, Andrew Wise, got one of their specialized sizing shirts recently and described the whole ordeal as “a great experience… I know my perfect size now and can order with ease whenever I want.” They used their sizing tool to give Andrew his perfect fit and sent two other shirts along with his main one that had slight size variations so he (and you) could pick the shirt that fits just right. I took a whirl at the sizing tool and got “M1B,” here’s the breakdown of my size:

  • My chest works best in a medium, the “M.”
  • I’m not Arnold Schwarzenegger so my torso fits best in a slim size, the “1.”
  • For my height, 5’10”, a longer shirt is ideal, the “B.”

The sizing tool requires only three measurement and is nearly impossible to mess up. You’ll be on your way to better fitting T-shirts in no time.
