Men’s Hairstyles: The Side Part. 10 Best Ways to Wear It

We did the long hairstyle trend and we wrote about how to best wear your hair short, now it’s time to lean over to the side. We got inspired by one of the most stylish New Yorkers and a true legend in the advertising biz, non other than Don Draper. There’s something about that hair that gives him a sharp look and an alluring aura no women can ever resist. And we want it too! Looking from the practical view it’s all about the versatility. The shorter in the back and on the sides cut makes for a great choice when you want to change your hair from time to time, without the obligation to visit your barber. With the side hairstyle it’s all about the styling and the right hair products that will help you tame your hair in the right direction. To get that movie star look, we rounded up 10 best looks and a few tips on how to wear your side hair.

Check our list of 10 Best Short Haircuts for Men.

To get the side part happening you first need to get the right cut. The back and sides need to be shorter than the top, but not in a drastic way. It should create a gradual transition from short to long.

Once you have the right cut, it’s all about combing it to the side. To find your natural part brush your hair forward, shake your head lightly, and look where the hair starts to separate.

The next step is all about styling your hair. The products you need to pick depend on the type of hair you have and the look you’re going for. Pomade offers both shine and pliability, while gel may be better to tame your tougher locks.

If you want to go for a messy look, then forget about brushing your hair, simply use your fingers and apply some foam for volume and some gel to keep the side part in place.

You might want to go for some hight as well. To create this look apply some gel and comb your hair to the side in an arc. For texture you can also use some volumizing products when your hair is still wet.

For a Don Draper devilish look, you’ll need to apply some pomade that will create both shine and pliability. This is a great evening or office look, it will stay in place no matter how much workload you have.

Jon Kortajarena is a great inspiration when it comes to styling your hair to the side, when they get a bit longer. This look is a bit more relaxed but it still work as a contemporary and a gentlemanly style.

To create a more relaxed feel, once you’ve combed the hair, run your fingers through it to break it up a bit and introduce a little texture. You can spike them up a bit to add a youthful edge.

We suggest you keep at least two hair styling products always handy at home. One should be shiny and the other one more matte. That way you’ll always be able to go from casual to more sophisticated hairstyles.

If you can’t quite find the look that fits you, try mixing both shiny and matte products together and make a mixture that suits you. The blend will create an intermediate effect that works for any occasion.
