How to Book Singapore Airlines Suites Class for Just 86k Points

S

ingapore Suites is the absolute BEST way to fly to Europe. The thing is, the flight costs close to $8000. But, if you use points, you can score this flight for $450 and just 86k points.

@ThreadTherapy and I have taken this flight more than 8 times and kind of consider ourselves experts. It’s taken me 3 years to accumulate all the knowledge to be able to book this flight with ease and now I want to share with you how you can book Singapore Airlines Suites Class with points.

Step 1: Transfer 86k Points to Singapore KrisFlyer

KrisFlyer is the frequent flyer program for Singapore Airlines. To book any Singapore Award Ticket, you need to book on SingaporeAir.com and you can’t redeem using any other miles or partners. The good news is, KrisFlyer has a ton of transfer partners:

  • American Express Membership Rewards
  • Chase Ultimate Rewards
  • Citi ThankYou Rewards
  • Capital One

To transfer the actual points, all you need to do is connect your KrisFlyer number (or create one here if you haven’t already).

Step 2: Search for Award Availability

On the SingaporeAir.com page, what you need to do is first login to your account, then search for your dates. When booking, make sure to select Redeem Flights so you can pull up their award search.

When trying to find the best availability, the trick is to search within the next 2 weeks or 3+ months in advance. Your best chance for finding Saver availability is to search for flights taking off on Saturday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. These days are least likely to have leisure or business travelers, thus ensuring the highest likelihood the seats will be available.

Step 3: Waitlist or Book Your Flight

Singapore Suites Class is bookable on two different tiers. You have the Saver and the Advantage. When you book with Saver, it costs only 86k points and Advantage is 140k points.

Each redemption is giving you $.093 and $.057 price per point, respectively, so even if your search dates don’t show Saver space, even booking with Advantage is pretty stellar when you consider my baseline for using points is getting more than $.02 per point.

If you choose to Waitlist your flight, what will happen is 2-3 days before your flight, you’ll get an email from SingaporeAir telling you your flight is available or it’s not. I’ve used Waitlist twice and got my flight once and decided to cancel the Waitlist the other, just because I didn’t want to end up booking a separate seat for me and Wei.

But if you’re flexible and want the best deal, then schedule the Waitlist flight and cross your fingers and hope for the best.

If you want the guaranteed booking, go for 140k Advantage, and then from there, you’ll just need to select your seats and pay taxes on the flight. Taxes vary based on the flight, but you can expect to pay between $250-300 per flight. For our most recent booking, we paid $575.26 for a flight from JFK to SIN.

To get the “bed in the sky”, then you’ll want to select the two seats in the middle. The seats convert into a single bed and if you book two of them, then you can have a full double bed in the sky. It’s truly an amazing experience and something most of us will never experience if not for learning to hack these points.

So there you have it, your complete guide for flying with a private bed in the sky for just 86k points.
