We just completed another awesome trip to Sardinia, Italy.
We flew there on Lufthansa first class (for free with points), and stayed at an amazing seaside resort with some of the best beaches in the world.
I’m going to break down how you can replicate this trip yourself, and why you should make Sardinia your next trip.
But first, a little history on Sardinia
Sardinia is the second-largest island in the Mediterranean (next to Sicily), and is host to a beautiful landscape. This unique island will totally impress you with its rugged coastline and it also features white-sand beaches, dramatic cliffs and mountain tracks.
You can stay in a glamorous resort or a characteristic house in one of the many medieval vilages, discover ruined castels and ancient churches.
The island is full of eventful history brought by Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Catalans, Pisans, Piemontese. They’ve all took part in shaping this amazing vacation destination where culture flourishes and time seems to slows down.
Top 5 reasons to visit Sardinia:
The best months to visit are from May to September, but expect a lot of European vacationers in July and August. Highest rates during these two peak summer months, are also to be expected.

Cala Cuncheddi is a luxury retreat with a welcoming embrace that will make you leave a little of the world behind.
The timeless elegance of style and service is seen in cosseting accommodation, gourmet cuisine, restorative wellness therapies and of course in an unsurpassed location, delicately perched above the azure tranquillity of the Mediterranean.
You can choose from 39 exquisite and luxurious rooms and suites, including the ultra-exclusive Eaudesa rooms, almost at sea level.
Try out their gourmet restaurant, Un Piano nel Cielo, with seasonal, locally sourced Mediterranean cuisine, while the poolside dining offers easy, healthy salads, pastas, and other lighter dishes.
Dip into the heated indoor or outdoor pools at will, and bask in the summer sun on the poolside deck, relaxing while life goes on elsewhere.
Don’t forget to pamper yourself in the spa, the comprehensive range of beauty and wellness treatments are sure to put you completely at ease. Or wander down to the local beach for a drink from the seaside bar or a trip on one of Cala Cuncheddi’s private boats.
You can book Cala Cuncheddi on their website casangelina.com.
The price starts at 305 eur/night.
We booked our flight from EWR to OLB (connecting in Munich), using points for first class on Lufthansa.
The flight was just 80,000 miles when booking with Aeroplan.
Here’s how to book First Class with Lufthansa to Europe
To book the flight, transfer 80,000 points from AMEX Membership Rewards to Lufthansa.
Lufthansa releases availability about 2 weeks prior to any flights, so you need to be patient (or flexible) when booking.
Another alternative to booking Lufthansa First Class is to use Aeroplan miles. You can book a one-way for 70,000 miles with Aeroplan. Aeroplan is a transfer partner of American Express and SPG.
In 1884 Claude Monet came to Dolceacqua and wrote in his diary: “The location is superb, there is a bridge that is a jewel of lightness.” Dolceacqua offers a fusion of two kitchens and cultures that dominate the island – Ligurian and Sardinian, and it’s truly unique when it comes to their superb cuisine. The restaurant is run by Paola and his son Henry, together they create a delicious culinary experience, where seafood and pasta have the spotlight.
