Travel in Style: The Best Weekend Duffles for Men

Weekend bags are a necessity for any man. They are both fashionable and functional, ensuring that you look good even when on the go. Weekend bags are available from a number of different options, but I’ll list a few of my favorites here, in no real order, to help you with your hunt for the perfect one.

Mr. Porter has quite a few options for weekend and duffle bags and is currently having an amazing sale to help you grab one for less. Usually $630, but currently under the heavy discount of 40 percent, Marc by Marc Jacobs is temporarily priced at $378 monochrome, affordable and quite beautiful. Minimal and sophisticated, it is made of black leather and dark grey canvas panels. It features two internal and two external pockets and extendible sides. The duffle bag will never go out of style and is a great choice for anyone who can fit it in their budget. It measures at 18W x 12H x 7D.

The other Mr. Porter option that I found appealing was the Want Les Essentiels De La Vie leather trimmed organic cotton holdall bag. The bag comes in a pleasant tan canvas with slightly darker brown leather accents. It measures 24W X 14H X 4D and is priced at $395, slightly more expensive than the currently discounted Marc Jacobs bag. The bag is simple in all the right ways and pleasing to the eye thanks to its simple silhouette and effortless aesthetic. Stylistically it is reminiscent of a more mature version of a Hershel Co. bag.

Speaking of which, The Hershel Supply Co has some great bags at much lower prices than Mr. Porter.  Personally, I am fond of both their Fine China Collection packable and novel duffle bags, which go for $79.99 and $29.99 respectively. The floral pattern on these bags is reminiscent of old school porcelain dishware, hence the collection name, and is extremely trendy right now. The aesthetic will appeal to both classic menswear and streetwear supporters alike. If you are looking for a more traditional, clean weekend bag, Hershel can still fit your needs, as it also has duffle bags in simpler silhouettes for the same pricing.

The Packable Duffle is more functional as a weekender bag as it has more room. It includes Hershel’s signature shoe compartment for “easy and organized travel.”  It is also lined with their signature coated poly fabric.

The Novel Duffle, on the other hand is more practical as a day trip bag and is a bit smaller. It has the special feature of being able to fold into its own internal pocket. If floral still isn’t your thing, Hershel can still fit your needs, as it also has these duffle bags in simpler patterns for the same pricing.

J. Crew has a lot of options for weekend or duffle bags, my favorites are the Abingdon in either deep olive or dark navy for $198 and the slightly less expensive Steele Canvas Basket Corp™ For J.Crew Leather-Trim Gym Bag for $168.

J.Crew states that the Abingdon was inspired by “vintage hunting gear” and that shows in the design. The bag looks classic in the best way possible and sports a waxed cotton canvas and burnished leather trim along with brass finished hardware. Because of its composition, the bag is tough, good-looking, super functional, and is thus a good option for any occasion. It measures at 17 1/2″H x 26″W x 9 1/4″D. Priced at $198

The Steele Canvas Basket Corp for J. Crew Leather Trim Gym Bag is definitely a mouthful to say but is definitely worth it. The navy canvas with a brown leather underbelly and white straps come together to give the bag a really classic look and the $168 pricing makes it extremely affordable for such a well crafted duffle. The Steele Canvas Basket Corp is known for their industrial laundry baskets and totes, so you know this gym bag is not only fashionable but also functional. It is tough and can be taken anywhere, but still look good, making it a very versatile bag.

Zara also has some great options. The first is the Raffia Weekend Bag. It will run you $89 and measures at 11 x 20 x 10 ˝. It is a good looking little bag with an aesthetic that is pretty different from any others on the list. The outer shell is Zara’s take on affordable alligator skin. It is two different shades of brown, giving it a toned down look, which will go nicely with a more formal outfit.

The second is the Brushed Leather weekend bag. This bag is priced at 279, and though it is more expensive than the Raffia, it is made out of 100 percent brushed leather rather than synthetic material. The bag looks worth the price, it is elegant and classic, and though it would look good on anyone’s arm it is definitely geared more towards a menswear man. It is both easily one of the most handsome bags on this list and one of my overall favorites. It measures 16 x 21 x 7 ˝
