The Newest Way to Shop for Sunglasses: SunsTruck

In a world where everything is mobile and innovation is what keeps you standing out, SunsTruck, the new mobile sunglasses store is changing the way New Yorkers shop.  You can find them anywhere from The Upper West Side, to Flatiron or Williamsburg throughout the week, and can catch them making friends with beach-goers on the weekends.  This custom designed, one of a kind, store in the back of a truck is unlike any other.  And we absolutely love it.

I stopped by this beach necessity on wheels the other day near Union Square and caught up with Founder Shaun Moss who shed some light on his journey and what he hopes to see for the future.

The 20ft truck was transformed into a custom sunglasses store and unleashed on our great city this summer for the first time.  “People seem to like it… Everyone wants to take pictures” Shaun told me.

Wide-eyed tourists walked by and stared with excitement, while residents passed by with curious looks while Shaun and I stood in the store speaking.  In the short time I was interviewing Shaun we had a small handful of people peek in, and one man who seemed pretty bummed the SunsTruck wasn’t open at that moment.

The SunsTruck carries a wide array of glasses to choose from.  You can take your pick from modern Italian designers, Australian brands like Le Spec, or American loved glasses by Wildfox, just to name a few.  The prices vary from a couple inexpensive pairs just in case you need to grab something cheap on the beach, to some awesome high end pairs ranging up to $200.  The average prices hover around $60, including SunsTruck’s in house brand of fashion forward bamboo glasses.  And if you happened to forget any other beach necessities, SunsTruck also has towels, sunscreen and flip-flops.  They really are your one stop shop on the beach.

And It’s For A Good Cause…

The SunsTruck’s awesomeness doesn’t stop at their walls of glasses.  Each and every day they give a portion of their proceeds to a different charity, ranging anywhere from the Rockaway Beach Surf Club to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.

What The Future Holds

Carting around their solo truck is great for now, but Shaun and Rachel definitely see this growing in the future.  Wanting to add more trucks in years to come, and hopefully expanding to other cities the opportunities are endless.  Their concept is one that seems so easy, yet so perfect at the same time.  I can only hope this catches on and mobile stores become the next big thing.

Track Down The SunsTruck

Finding a mobile store is much easier than you’d think.  Shaun updates his location each time he stops the truck.  You can check their Instagram or Twitter.  Or go to their site and find a map of their daily location at the bottom.

So go try on some glasses, snap some photos, and say hi to Shaun and Rachel while they continue to delight one neighborhood at a time with some great glasses and an idea we love.
