The Ultimate Luxury Men’s Store, MR PORTER

Every once in a while something comes along that completely changes the game.  It shakes the system, redefines what makes the best the best, and makes customers take a second look and what they should expect.  The world of online retailers has been growing and changing for years and it seemed pretty damn good.  Then Mr. Porter came along.

Mr. Porter showed us what we should expect from an online retailer, what true luxury is, what style is, and most of all, how to be a modern man.  This is a brand we can not only get behind, but we will scream at the top of our lungs to let everyone else know they should get behind it too.  Mr. Porter redefined online retailers, and somewhere in the mix they redefined menswear as a whole.  Here is the history of this game changing brand, and a few (of the many) reasons it needs to be on your favorites tab.

The Basics of Mr Porter

For being only a few years old, Mr. Porter is wise beyond their years.  They are truly a league of extraordinary gentlemen, and they are not for men of subpar taste.

Mr. Porter came about in February of 2011 with the goal of being the go-to men’s fashion site on the planet.  Instead of strictly selling the apparel or writing about it, they decided to take it all on, giving us a mix of some amazing editorial content housed next to the exact things they are writing about.  You can learn all the ways you should be wearing your navy chinos then make one click and buy the exact pair you just read about.

Mr. Porter has aligned itself with the best of the best in menswear featuring some of the biggest and most influential brands in the world, housing collections from Alexander McQueen, Burberry, Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Saint Laurent, J. Crew and Paul Smith, to name drop a few.  This has allowed them to bring the public things you are unable to find anywhere else in the world, exclusive pieces just for Mr. Porter, stylists who will help you build immaculate wardrobes from global brands, and the ability to all of this from your own couch.

The Mr Porter Extras

Being an excellent retailer and editorial site just wasn’t enough for Mr. Porter, they wanted to conquer every platform and have done it with nothing short of British elegance.  While browsing the clothing can keep a fashion loving man enticed for hours, the other perks offered by Mr. Porter can keep you there even longer.

Mr. Porter has ways to keep you connected on the go or at home, not only do they have a mobile app (which you would expect) but they have a newspaper, the Mr. Porter Post, which is perfect for your no cellphone service subway commute in the morning.  Then when you are connected they have a plethora of other things to keep your mind busy.  If you’re a little new to the world of high fashion, check out The Style Help pages, where you can learn trends, season essentials, and even ask style advice from the pros.  Of course if you have an urgent matter you can contact a Style Advisor, who can help with everything from size and fit to the perfect gift.

My favorite part of the Mr. Porter perks and extras (which we’ve hardly even covered) is their Youtube channel.  Featuring amazing video series, as well as one of pieces to help you learn the essentials, they do a great job of giving you what you want to learn without overloading you with information.  They have videos to help you pack, to teach you the correct way to polish your shoes, how to make great coffee at home, and my personal favorite, the “The Way I Dress” series.  This series features men of all different styles, who are known for their immaculate taste in clothing, and each gives a brief monolog about their take on style while showing off some of their coolest threads.

Here is one of the awesome videos from the, “The Way I Dress” series, featuring Mr. Andrew Weitz, Talent Agent in Los Angeles.

Check out the rest of the Mr. Porter videos and learn some great tips on style, travel and other modern men’s essentials.
