How can you actually look good wearing a suit and sneakers? That was the question I asked myself prior to styling this look. I partnered with Reebok Classics and DSW to promote their retro Harman line.
Any of the attempts I had made before had fallen flat and I just looked a little sloppy.
So what did I do differently this time to make this look work? Let’s take a look…
So the first step is to make your outfit more casual. If you’re heading from work, ditch the dress shirt and throw on a tee.
I went with a relaxed scoop shirt that gives you that off-duty model in Italy vibe. I stretch out my shirts so they have a nice drape appearance to them.
I know, popping your collar can come off as douchey, but it also softens the suit and makes it more casual.
Another cue to the world that you’re off duty is you’re pushing up your sleeves. I always liked the 80s stand-up comic look of the pushed up sleeves on a blazer look and doing this gives you the same relaxed vibe.
When my pair of Reebok Classic Harmans arrived, my first thought was that these would go great with an 80s era look. So I thought about some throwback looks, and then thought about the comedians. Seinfeld in his heyday.
If you’re going to pair sneakers with your shoes, make sure the materials are a match. You normally wear leather brogues with your suits, so your sneakers should have leather in them.
Make sure the color scheme is simple, you don’t want to draw too much attention to the fact you’re wearing sneakers with your suit, otherwise the look will just be too wild and won’t look classically good.
