We’re fully into summer now and although it’s the hottest time of year, being adults we don’t get to sit in the sprinklers eating popsicles all day. (Well most of us don’t.) Most of us have to keep going to work as usual, which can pose come complications in the appropriate dressing department. Here are some business casual looks you can rock throughout the season to stay cool without causing a scene.
Invest in Some Moisture Wicking Wear
You might already have moisture wicking clothing in your gym wardrobe, but you can incorporate it into your work life arsenal as well. One good option is Combatant Gentlemen’s Endurance Shirts, which are made out of Indian cotton and completely breathable. The best part is that they look like normal button down shirts so you don’t look any different than normal.
Embrace the Short Sleeves
Short sleeve shirts can still be totally appropriate for the office, just keep them of the button up variety so they still look professional. Always tuck in in and if you need to dress it up a notch throw on a slim tie to pull everything together. Pair a short sleeved shirt with Dockers or your suit pants, and throw on some suede loafers with thin cotton socks.
Get a Cotton or Linen Suit
A cotton or linen suit in a modern shape is not going to look like you’re at an island wedding, especially if you pair it with the right items. The cool thing is, it can be worn as separates or as an outfit so getting one for summer creates tons of new outfits out of things that you already have. Go for slim fits to keep the look youthful and current and pair with a penny loafer or driving shoe.
Try Out New Colors
Depending on your place of work you probably don’t want to get totally wacky with your colors and prints, but the summer is the time to lighten up if you want to. Pastels are fine, as are checks and light colored plaids. (Just make sure the plaids are breathable cotton, not flannel, okay?) When you are going with a busier shirt remember to keep things basic and clean else wear, otherwise you’ll look like you got dressed at the golf course.
Alternatively, you can opt for colorful khakis and make the party on the bottom of your outfit, instead of the top. So many options. H&M has a slim fit chino for only $29.95.
