Why You Should Make Nevada Your Next Vacation Destination

Around 40% of Americans have never traveled to a foreign country. More than half have visited fewer than 10 different states, and a shocking 11% haven’t even traveled outside of their own state once.

Yet, 76% of US citizens say they want to travel more, and around two-thirds actually have a whole list of destinations that they’d like to visit.

Despite all of the incredible credit card deals that can help you make flying halfway around the world affordable, it is, perhaps, understandable that so many Americans choose to stay on home soil. Here in the US, we have some of the most diverse landscapes and cultures anywhere in the world.

From the tropical climates of Florida to the New England states that can get rather chilly, and from the flat terrains of Texas to the Rocky Mountains of Washington, Idaho, and other western states, there is a lifetime’s worth of exploring just in America.

One popular destination for Americans is Nevada. If you’re not into playing card games, it may be somewhere you’d initially dismiss, but there’s a lot more to the state that you imagine and it’s definitely somewhere you should consider for your next vacation. Here’s why.

Of course, Nevada is most famous for its gaming venues. In fact, most of the people that visit the state spend at least some of their time in its casinos. Las Vegas is a city that rose from the desert sand by creating a destination for people wanting to play at card and table games.

Today, the integrated resorts have come a long way from the straw-covered saloons of the early 20th century. They’re giant, luxury facilities with hundreds of square feet of gaming space offering exclusive games, as well as online favorites like roulette, blackjack, and baccarat. Despite Vegas being in the US and therefore influenced by its culture, there is no shortage of different variations in games from around the world. For example, you’ll find both American and European versions of roulette. They are essentially the same, but American roulette has an extra pocket that is used for the green double-zero.

Museums

Nevada is home to many unique and interesting museums, each helping to tell the story of the state’s history. There are rows upon rows of 20th-century history, including famous signs like Binion’s Horseshoe and the Golden Nugget.

If you’re into science, then the National Atomic Testing Museum might be right up your street. From its 12,000 artifacts, you’ll learn about how Nevadan deserts were used to experiment with atomic explosions, helping scientists understand how they worked and to fully comprehend their destructive power.

Nature

Way before Nevada became home to the glitzy Las Vegas strip and an atomic weapon firing range, it was a state full of natural beauty. Much of that remains today, offering unique and picturesque views.

In Clark County, the Valley of Fire gets its name from the red sandstone formations that puncture the otherwise desolate landscape. Meanwhile, in Baker, The Bristlecone Pines of the Great Basin is home to trees that are reportedly 5,000 years old.

Thrill Rides

If you’re looking for something a little more exciting, Nevada is home to many white-knuckle rides and attractions. In Primm, on the border with California, the Buffalo Bill’s Casino is home to the Desperado. This Arrow Dynamics hypercoaster was, at one time, the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world.

In Las Vegas itself, there are several other roller coasters, including the Big Apple Coaster at New York-New York. At The Strat, you’ll find several unique rides on its roof, including Insanity, a mechanical arm that spins you around 900 feet in the air, and X-Scream, a roller coaster that’s a single piece of track that rocks backwards and forwards over the edge of the building.

Then there’s the driving experiences, zip lines, and other exciting attractions offered by Nevadan businesses.

Live Entertainment

There’s also the live entertainment that’s on offer in Nevada. Of course, most of it is located in Las Vegas, but you’ll also find it in Reno, Primm, and other cities in the state.

Many A-list celebrities have residencies in the state, performing to crowds of thousands several nights a week. Then there are the big sporting events like blockbuster boxing matches and UFC fights that draw huge crowds to the state.
