Check Your Mail: American Airlines Offering Platinum Status Match Until May 15, 2019

Check your inbox or mailbox, because last week ThreadTherapy got a mailer from AAdvantage offering her Platinum status until May 15, 2019 plus 20 500-mile upgrades for free, just for registering.

Unlike me, Wei is definitely not an obsessive flight hacker, and that’s probably why she got this invite and I didn’t. Despite my pestering, she often forgets to put in her frequent flyer number on flights we pay for, so as a result, she’s a highly targeted customer for the airlines: someone that pays full price and never uses miles.

Hopefully your profile does not look like mine and you can register for this promotion, and if you do register, here’s what you can expect as an American Airlines Platinum status member. These are my favorite, most used benefits.

• Seat upgrades on flights under 500 miles: These are automatic based on flight, of course subject to availability
• Twenty 500-mile upgrades: You can use these on flights over 500, when available, to upgrade your ticket. Your best chance of getting upgrades are flying on days when there won’t be a ton of business travel like Saturday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays
• Priority check-in, security and boarding: With the Government being shutdown, the lines at TSA are getting longer, so not having to pay for priority is worth it
