Picture Perfect: The Best DSLR Cameras for Any Photographer

Since Instagram, selfies and filters of every kind have hit the internet, everyone wants to be the most artistic photographer they know.  While iPhones may have a camera that is great for drunken bar shoots and Snapchats, if you really want some quality photos you need to have a quality camera.  We’ve compiled a short list of some of our favorite DSLR cameras, whether this is your first real lens, or you’re a seasoned vet, we’ve got something in here for everyone.

DSLR Cameras for the First Timers

While you might be an expert with your iPhone, DSLR cameras aren’t made for you to just turn it on and take amazing photos.  You need to learn your way around the camera, which function does what, which setting is best for which lighting, how to perfect the zoom, and plenty of other small tweaks we are far from experts in. When you set out to buy your first DSLR camera, you aren’t going to want to go for the biggest and the best right out the gate.  Even a “starter” DSLR is going to cost you more than your average point-and-shoot camera, but once you learn the basics it will be well worth it.

We recommend the Nikon D5200 for your first DSLR.

The Nikon D5200 has all the great functions of a DSLR camera without having all the extras you aren’t ready for yet.  With excellent photo and video quality and an upgraded autofocus this is the perfect camera for your general family photo shoots. The D5200 is also great for the average photographer who wants some quick snapshots.  The camera can turn on and snap photos in roughly 0.3 second and can focus, expose and shoot in about 0.5, assuming you have good lighting. Basically, this camera will do everything you need it to do assuming you aren’t trying to start a photography business, and even then it wouldn’t be your worst choice. The Nikon D5200 goes for $696.95, but B&H is currently offering a $100 instant savings, bringing it down to $596.95, well worth the price for such a high preforming camera. DSLR Cameras for Those With a Little Experience

Taking the next step in DSLR cameras will cost you a little more, but the quality of the camera and photos will up your picture taking street cred by a long shot.  Less for selfies (although we aren’t judging) and more for picturesque landscapes and action shots that could be hung on your wall, you’re going to want something with a little more function, shutter speed, and the ability to focus immediately.

We Recommend the Canon EOS 7D For Your Midrange DSLR Camera

This camera isn’t for a novice photographer.  A big step up from the Nikon D5200, this DSLR will give you amazing photographs for still portraits, action shots, and pretty much any other activity you choose to be photographing.  The 18 megapixels give you clear, clean and concise pictures without raising the price tag as high as some other midrange DSLR cameras. The 3 inch Clear View II LCD screen with 920,000 dot resolution is perfect for shooting that perfect photo, or for creating a breathtaking full HD 1080 video in the palm of your hand. The Canon EOS 7D is also equipped with an integrated Speedlite Transmitter, allowing it to moderate the outside light intake without needing to buy additional accessories.  This camera is perfect for the photographer who wants to step their game up, without having the prospect of shooting the cover of GQ. You can find the Canon EOS 7D at B & H for $999 (the best price we’ve seen yet.) Ratings and Reviews for the Canon EOS 7D

I’m Basically a DSLR Pro, Bro.

If you’re well-versed in your camera game then you may not need the ins and outs we are willing to give you, but everyone can still use a guide in the right direction.  We searched high and low for our favorite high end DSLR cameras, spoke with a few camera experts, and settled on something that falls right in the middle of absolute photo perfection and a very reasonable price point.

We Recommend the Canon EOS 5D Mark III

Whether you want to snap some shots of the kids soccer game, start your own private investigator agency, or take some beautiful photos while walking around the city, this camera will top all the rest. With its 22.3 megapixels (yeah, those things) you get clear crisp shots every time. Weighing in with a little heavier price tag than the last two, the Canon EOS 5D Mark III will run you around $3,399, but if you grab one from B&H before July 5 you get a $200 mail in rebate (something the other big box camera stores don’t offer), knocking the price down to $3,199 for a short time. Our Final Thoughts

Well, there you have it.  No matter what your level of expertise, we’ve got a camera here for you.  Pick the one you like and get out there to take some amazing photos.  Your Instagram game has never been so good.
