Flight Hacks

LAX to London With Points: Just 30k Miles Each Way

There has never been a better time to visit London thanks to how strong the dollar is compared to the pound. In past years, the conversion rate has been about $2 to £1, but right now, due to the current situation with Brexit, it’s $1.25 to £1, giving you a tremendous amount of spending power.

We got a request for an amazing adventure starting in LAX, working their way through Europe, via an entry point and then further onto Lagos. We’re showing you the first leg, with the cheapest ways to book a flight from LAX to LHR for as low as 30k points each way.

Our Recommendation

There are a number of nonstop flights from LAX to LHR, but based on you having 68k UR points, we’re going to be focusing on United Airlines.

70k Miles on United, Nonstop

If you want to fly direct, then with an Economy Saver Award, it’s 70k miles each way. The flight itself costs $1,394, giving you a $.02 price per point, which is at the bottom end of the value for Ultimate Rewards points.

30k Miles on United, 1 Stop

However, if you’re a little more flexible, you can fly for just 30k miles on a Saver Award with one-stop.

Transfer Points from Ultimate Rewards to United to Redeem

Based on your 68k UR points, you have enough for a roundtrip flight on United. Since you have a massive itinerary beyond London, we recommend you re-up on points to ensure you have enough for a return flight from Lagos on your way back.

UR points transfer on a 1:1 ratio to United

If you want to get more miles that can transfer directly to United, we recommend Chase cards, specifically:
  • 100k welcome bonus (enough for almost 4 roundtrip flights) — when you spend $15k in the first 3 months
  • Just $95 annual fee
