We found a very limited number of flights heading to Santorini and even fewer that take reward bookings. Of the 15 airlines we checked, only three airlines had flights and of those three, two were accepting reward bookings.

Fly to Greece for 60k Points on United

We searched United Airlines and discovered a $1,935 flight for 60k points plus  a $112 fee. The fee for this trip is higher than some with United. This option is giving you $0.034 per point.

Fly to Greece for 60k Points on American

We searched American Airlines and found a $1,782 flight for 60k points giving you $0.030 per point. While this option is giving you a slightly lower return on your points it does have several advantages. You have a number of American points. Your Marriott points will transfer to American at a 3:1 ratio, so 3k M points will be 1k miles. Plus, you can book your AA flight through Etihad using your Amex MR and your Citi points (which transfer to Etihad) given that Etihad partners with Amex, Citi and American Airlines. Booking through Etihad Airlines, you will use the Etihad Award Chart which may be cheaper.

Bonus note: If you transfer a minimum of 60k Marriott points, Marriott will automatically send 15k bonus points to the airline for your use.

To redeem this flight, call Etihad Airlines to book. Before calling, you want to

1. Register or log in to your Etihad Guest you will need to reference this number on your call.
2. Link your Etihad Guest account with your Amex Membership Rewards, if you have not already done so, this will ensure you can easily transfer your MR points to redeem them for travel. Do NOT transfer your points until you are on the phone with an Etihad agent who confirms reward availability on your flight. They will hold on the line while you instant transfer your Amex points. To streamline your call, have your Amex card handy and your Amex Member Rewards account page open to quickly transfer points.
3. Go into American Airlines and select the flights you want with the number of people in your party. Make a note of the flight numbers as you will need to reference them on your call to Etihad.

4. Call Etihad at 877-690-0767 Select option “1” for English.  Select option “4” for Etihad Guest frequent flyer program. Give the agent your Etihad Guest number and that you want to book an American Airlines flight with miles and which flight numbers you desire. Request they waive the phone fee as this reservation is not possible online. Once ticketed, you can use your confirmation number to go to American Airlines site, select the Record Locator and then Find My Trip tabs to choose your seats.
