We found several flights to South Africa in March. However, not all airlines offer reward flights to all destinations, and Johannesburg is one such destination. We pared down our search results to only include airlines offering reward flights to South Africa. This trip carries a price tag in the neighborhood of $1,500. We are highlighting the United Airlines Flight for 80k points return plus nominal fee.
We searched Delta Airlines and found a $1,580 going for 124k points plus a $60 fee. We found that the points price was high and the return is low. This option is only giving you $0.013 per point.
We found a $1,475 American Airlines flight going for 80k points. While the number of points required for this flight is in the ballpark, you are only getting $0.018 per point with this option. Also, your United points will not transfer to American and you would be starting from zero, so we continued our search.
Searching United Airlines netted us a $1,900 flight for the same 80k points and a fee that is about the price of a cup of coffee. This option is giving you a much better $0.024 per point.
To redeem this flight simply transfer your points through the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal.
