She performed on P.Diddy’s ‘No Way out’ tour in 1997 where she promoted her album ‘Hard Core’. The tour became a high grosser and continued through to 1998. She forayed into modeling and posed for various fashion companies like Candies, Versace, Iceberg and Baby Phat. She also launched her own label Queen Bee Entertainment.
In 2000, she brought out her second album, ‘The Notorious K.I.M.’ which debuted at No.4 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. The album sold over 3.2 million copies worldwide and was a big commercial success. She collaborated with Christina Aguilera, Pink, and Mya in 2001 to remake ‘Lady Marmalade’ which had originally been performed by the group Labelle 25 years earlier. The song stayed at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for five weeks.

In 2005, she was convicted of three counts of conspiracy and one count of perjury for lying to a Federal grand jury about her involvement in a 2001 shooting. She was sentenced to one year in prison and released in August 2006. Her album, ‘The Naked Truth’ was out in 2005 while she was incarcerated. Compared to her earlier albums, this was her least successful album. It featured the singles ‘Lighters Up’ and ‘Whoa’. After her release from jail in 2006 she began working on a mix tape, ‘Ms. G.O.A.T’—it was her first release post the completion of her prison term. The tape featured several new songs as well remixes of some old songs.
She brought out another mix tape ‘Black Friday’ in 2011. The mix tape received negative reviews from critics as Lil’ Kim had used abusive language against the singer Nicki Minaj in her lyrics in response to personal enmity between the two.
