While living in Australia, Preston was found at 16 by a mold picture taker who helped her get work in advertisements and other little parts , and sorted out Preston’s first film try out in 1980 for the part of Emmeline in The Blue Lagoon (1980), which she lost to the more youthful Brooke Shields. Around then she changed her last name to Preston.
