Season 2 of ‘Serial’ to focus on Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl
If you haven’t pretended to work while listening to season 1 of Serial and contemplating the innocence of Adnan Syed you’re seriously behind on life.
Serial, the podcast from the creators of This American Life, took the nation by storm last October, and they’re coming back with a new case for us all to obsess about. This time Serial is reportedly taking notice of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl’s case. Bergdahl was a U.S. soldier stationed in Afghanistan when he went missing from his post in 2009.
It was found out he was being held prisoner by the Taliban, and the entire ordeal was viewed as a sketchy situation from the start.
After the capturing made headlines and the nightly news, it was very public information that President Obama traded five detainees for Bergdahl’s return.
Berghdal was charged with desertion and misbehavior before the enemy when returning home, the second of these charges can carry a life sentence with it.
Not fully confirmed…
While Serial has refused to say for certain that they are honing in on the Bergdahl case, in a recent interview with Maxim, Matthew Farwell, a former soldier and someone who has written pieces on Bergdahl in the past confirmed he saw the Serial producers at the start of Bergdahl’s trial, and that multiple people had told him they had already been interviewed on Bergdahl by Serial.
While the Serial team refuses to give away any spoilers, they did release this statement to Maxim:
“We’d very much appreciate if fellow journalists would give us some room and not feel the need to attempt to dig into and try to figure out what you think we might be doing, especially since we’re actively reporting stories, and having a bunch of wild speculation out there makes our job reporting harder. Doesn’t feel very menschy. In any case, here’s what I can tell you: The Serial staff is currently working on several things simultaneously: Season 2, Season 3, and some other podcast projects. For now we’re not talking publicly about anything that we’re working on.”
Whatever it is they come up with, you know it’s going to be good.
