Uber

Uber History

There have been limo services and taxi companies for as long as most of us can remember. But they always operated very differently. If you needed a short spur of the moment type of ride, you grab a cab. This often means less than friendly drivers, strange smells and an experience you'd only be willing to have if you're drunk. Limos on the other hand had to be planned in advance, it needed to be an occasion, and it was going to cost you some money.

These scenarios just didn't work anymore for Garrett Camp and Travis Kalanick, the ingenious minds behind Uber. They wanted to arrive with style and class, even if it were just for a on the fly night out. And who could blame them?

They decided to do something about it and in 2009 started designing the soon to be world recognizable Uber. A year later the brand was born and the streets of San Francisco were graced with luxurious rides that would soon sweep the nation. The feedback from San Fran was incredible and some major investors took note, by the end of 2011 Uber had gathered $43.5 million in funding to start taking over the world one car ride at a time.

Since then Uber has had one awesome promotion after another; offering helicopter rides, Christmas trees on demand and Ubercade (where you are literally treated like the President.)

Uber Review

Uber has completely changed the way we get from point 'A' to 'B'. Gone are the days of calling a cab, where you are likely to get scowled at if you want to use your credit card. Uber drivers are friendly, courteous and come with the backing of a very respected company, it doesn't get much better than that.

The best part (from my experience) is that if something does go wrong, Uber will take of you immediately. I've had friends get phones returned to them, I once had a driver take a roundabout way to my destination and Uber immediately reimbursed my fare. Taxi's are quickly becoming a thing of the past, we have Uber to thank for that and we are indeed very thankful.

Uber recently launched #UberLoyalty in Phoenix on May 14, 2014, as their first loyalty program. We're big fans of the airlines loyalty programs and we're excited to see what Uber has planned, and it looks good. Uber Loyalty is going to offer the top 500 riders every month with the following:

- Uber credit for free
- VIP access to parties and events
- Hotel credits perfect for staycations
- Complimentary cabanas (probably not so in NYC)
- Restaurant and bar hookups
- And more..

Needless to say, this list is looking pretty good. We're hopeful Uber rolls this out to NYC to continue to reward their top customers, which is something I've been wishing Uber did. At this point, I was considering switching to Lyft based on Uber's rather surly way of trying to squash all competitors, but now with #UberLoyalty I think they've won me back.
