Rimowa

Rimowa History

Rimowa luggage was first introduced in 1898 by Paul Morszeck in Cologne, Germany. Wanting to make luggage that was lightweight and sturdy, he put in some work, and the result was unparalleled.

After nearly 40 years of Rimowa wooden luggage, Morszeck's son, Richard, took over the company and substituted the wood for a lightweight metal. This ended up not only making the suitcases even lighter than the originals but it added a sense of luxury and timelessness that no one else was offering at the time.

As time went on and new technologies were brought to light, Rimowa stayed ahead of the competition, moving to aluminum in 1950 (which caught the attention of flight crews everywhere) and on to being the first company to build polycarbonate luggage in 2000, which offered even lighter suitcases.

Today Rimowa is still known as the crème de la crème of luxury travel. They have moved on to even better materials, including polycarbonate, and the cases have become even lighter with more room to pack everything you probably won't need on your time off.
