Lyft

Lyft History

Started in 2012 by the same folks who brought us Zimride, Lyft is another ride sharing program that has recently taken off across the country. Lyft has over 100,000 registered users and in their first 12 months they provided over 30,000 rides. Not bad for a startup.

After extensive fundraising campaigns that brought in over $80 million, the founders, Logan Green and John Zimmer, sold Zimride to Enterprise and put all their efforts into Lyft.

Lyft can now operates in over 30 cities, including New York City, Chicago, Minneapolis, Los Angeles, Denver, Boston and so on.

Lyft Review

Lyft is a great option to have. Being avid Uber users, there are a few differences that take a moment of adjusting, but once you get passed the little things it can be a great experience.

What gave me the hardest time is that you're riding in someones personal car, not all of which are as clean as they could be. A car pulls up with a giant mustache on the front, you hop in, the driver gives you a fist bump, and you're on your way. The second time around this didn't rattle me nearly as much, but it is definitely different than any other ride service I had used in the past.

The great thing about Lyft, which trumps the awkwardness, is the price. Lyft is much cheaper than Uber and they recently cut their prices nationwide by up to 20%. If you need a trip to the bar, or a quick ride without spending much, Lyft is a great decision.
