Billy Reid History
Billy Reid was created by William Reid. William grew up in Amite, Louisiana. His mother opened and managed a women’s clothing boutique inside his grandmother's home. That led to William getting inspired by the fashion design industry. He later launched his own clothing line in 1998. It took the brand some time to become fruitful. Between 2001 and 2004 is when the company really took off. Essentially, William re-launched the company during that time, and under a different name for branding reasons. Billy Reid was born. The new line's intention was to be a designer brand centered around William's authentic lifestyle. His boutiques also adopted this vision. They all are set up and decorated to reflect his upbringing, personality, and his aesthetic. In 2008, he incorporated women's clothing, and accessories into his brand. In 2010, Billy Reid started collaborating with other brands. His first collaboration was with Stetson. In 2011, his collaboration with K. Swiss, launched.
Reid's brand in itself is a representation of the South. He designs his clothing in Florence, Alabama. His flagship store is also located in Florence, Alabama. Additional Billy Reid shops include locations in New York City; Washington, D.C.; Austin, TX; Atlanta, GA; Nashville, TN; Charleston, SC; Dallas, TX; Houston, TX; and New Orleans, LA. The collection is also available at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, Isetan in Japan, and United Arrows in Japan.
Billy Reid Review
Reviewed by Life, Tailored on .
Billy Reid is a casual and classic, all-American clothing line, with a Southern flare. Their stores are all decorated and set up to represent the designer: William Reid's southern upbringing. So, you will see wooden floors, brick walls, with classic American decor accessories.
They carry both men and women's clothing, shoes, and accessories. The designs are kept simple, but all have character in them. The cuts and silhouettes are kept minimalistic, but the patterns, colors, and textures in their fabric choices vary greatly. This is a smart thing to do as a designer, because you can have only a few designs, and then make them into a multitude of ways by just using fabrics with different patterns, colors, etc. In other words, Billy Reid is a simple clothing line, with a lot to choose from, simply by changing up materials. It's both cost and time effective for Reid and his team, as a whole. This clothing brand is perfect for people who like that all-American look, and have a classic style personality. Some say that Billy Reid can be compared with other American brands like J.Crew or Ralph Lauren.
