Y Project`s Autumn/Winter 14 Collection at Paris Fashion Week

This was my second season attending Men`s Fashion Week in Paris and although it`s much calmer than the women`s, it has become obvious that men are slowly but surely taking over the runways as well as the streets. One of the first shows I visited was the French-based luxury menswear label Y Project designed by Glen Martens.

The narrow hallway between the buildings at rue Faubourg du Temple was almost too small for the fashion crowd anticipating the beginning of Y Project`s presentation. It started with a deep and loud sound that dictated the models step. The collection was in tune with the soundtrack – dark, deep, with clean cuts and a strong silhouette. There were some shapes and construction that took the inspiration from the labels earlier pieces. Still the newly presented looks held many details and shapes to develop a new contemporary look. 

There was a strong presence of classics like the simply tailored blazer, mixed with urban and street wear. Different shades of black were drawn from a carefully chosen materials and textiles that resulted in a deep and edgy way. The Y Project`s look is very strong and does not leave room for playfulness. It`s straight forward. The pieces are versatile yet uniformed. They are cut comfortably and at the same time are very structured. The collection is a well tuned play between contrasts, between modern elegance and functional urban wear.
