Valentino has always been a go to brand when choosing elegance and style. There`s a timeless presence in their clothes. If we used to associate classic with the fashion house, the association has lately blended into more everyday than special occasions. The autumn/winter 2014 collection presented at the recent Men`s Fashion Week in Paris covered everything from shiny suits to comfortable casual wear.
There`s no doubt Valentino wants to be practical when it comes to dressing their man. Looking through the collection we realized you could dress a man for every occasion and basically assemble his wardrobe from this collection alone. How brilliant! It holds all the essential pieces one would need, from the navy tweed coat and loose fit indigo jeans to work suits and colorful knit sweaters.
The collection might look more on the casual side than the red carpet kind of attire but there`s an important detail to it all. Valentino`s creative directors Pierpaolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri wanted to incorporate a piece of the label`s best feature – their Haute Couture. Five of the cashmere coats presented on the runway were handmade in their atelier in Rome, making this a fashion`s first. The illusion of simplicity and everyday-wear is compromised by luxury of couture.
Have designers played us all for fools or wanted to make an important statement whit their casual couture? Maybe we should not judge a book by its cover like the fashion industry is so used to. Sometimes beauty lies in details that can only be seen up close. In the superficial world there needs to be room for mystery, says the Valentino.
