If You Have A Beard, Then You Need To Be Using This Product

We Ranked The Best Beard Balms of 2017

2017 became the year of the beard for Life, Tailored. I had been flirting with the idea of growing a beard in 2016, but finally took the plunge in 2017. I’ve got my best tips and tricks I’ve learned on how to grow a full beard, but for those of us who already have a beard, I wanted to focus on finding the best beard balm for me, and to share my findings with you guys.

First, you may be asking yourself, why do I even need a beard balm? The reason I started investigating beard balms is because, as my beard grew, it started to get itchy and also more difficult to control. Plus, my skin tends to be on the drier side, and I was getting bearddruff (image: just like the stuff on your head, but under your beard).

Beard balms allow you to shape your beard (similar to using a pomade or wax on your hair), help to keep your beard hairs healthy, and also to prevent the dreaded bearddruff.

Not all beard balms are the same, and there are a ton of products out there. I counted more than 30+ brands on Amazon. I’ve been reviewing beard balms all year, and these are the top 7 beard balms I trust, and I would recommend to anyone.

How to Use Beard Balm

Read these quick tips to make sure you know how to use your beard balm to get the best results.

First, wash your beard with your natural beard soap and let it dry.

Second, scrape out a little amount of balm and rub it in your palms.

Then, run your fingers in your beard from the neck and make sure to apply and rub the balm into your skin where your facial hair grows since this will develop and make the roots healthier. After that, run your fingers from top to bottom, spreading the balm throughout your facial hair.

After that, run your fingers from top to bottom, spreading the balm throughout your facial hair. Don’t forget to apply some balm to your mustache and the area around your mouth.

Finally, brush your beard with a beard brush to scatter the balm evenly.

You can use the balm 3 times a day. Note to wash your beard at night, especially if you use a balm that contains petroleum jelly as this will damage your beard.

Wild Willies Beard Balm Review

Wild Willies is known for being passionate about their products, beards, and men’s grooming.

It is part of the Manskape company, the producers of best beard balm leave-in conditioner beard butter. Their balm has maintained its high standards, which has garnered a loyal following throughout the years.

There are a lot of reasons to like Wild Willies beard balm. First, you’ll definitely notice that the itch you are suffering from will be gone in just a few days of using the product. Second, your beard is softer than it is and it has a great hold that lasts for the whole day. Third, you’ll definitely like it because it’s all organic. Lastly, the balm nurtures hair growth and prevents beardruff which is important for every bearded guy out there.

Wild Willie’s has an amazing woodsy scent that will leave you smelling refreshed for hours. It is worth noting that the smell isn’t the seller of this product – but that’s probably a good thing. You want a beard balm that’s going to help your beard grow, not one that’s going to make you smell great. Cologne exists for a reason, right? The produce does what it is marketed to do, and it does it well. That’s what matters most here.

If you are starting to grow a beard, then Beard Balm Natural Leave-In Conditioner is a great option for you. It is made from all-natural ingredients that produce terrific results for your beards.

It stops split ends, conditions your beard and comforts your skin. All too often, men with beards are faced with dry, itchy skin that drives them absolutely nuts. This balm will work to remedy that dry skin and stop the itch while also moisturizing and helping you to maintain a healthy beard. It works with any length of beards.

The Natural Leave-In Conditioner works terrific due to the combination of grapeseed, coconut oil, lanolin, and beeswax that are all good for moisturizing. Other natural components like lemon peel, eucalyptus leaf, and geranium flower promote beard growth. This is one reason why beard growers love the balm.

The balm doesn’t contain artificial ingredients, which lends to its fresh scent.

Arguably the coolest thing about this balm is how it’s made. Though it is primarily made in Detroit, Michigan, many of the natural ingredients come straight from a farm in Sri Lanka. The cans that the product comes in, meanwhile, are made in steel shops across America.

Scotch Porter Beard Balm Review

Got a serious problem with your beard having its own mind? Well, Scotch Porter, a relatively new brand in the beard balm market, is the beard balm for you.

Scotch Porter Beard Balm will give your beard proper hydration. The balm moisturizes, conditions and fights beardruff and itching. It keeps your beard softer and shinier, which is especially important for men with dry, wiry facial hair. Also, this balm will grow your hair thicker and healthier.

The balm has a masculine scent with a blend of carnation, sandalwood, powdery musk and spicy undertones which makes the balm better.

This balm works mostly as a leave-in conditioning moisturizer. It softens and tames your beard over time as it becomes absorbed by the hair follicles. That said, there is very little actual hold. It is a softener and soother – NOT a holder. Stick with waxes if you’re looking for something to shape your hair.

Why Beard Balm Is So Good For Your Beard

Eliminates Bearddruff

A primary benefit of using beard balm is that it prevents and treats beardruff. Beardruff are those little white flakes hanging in your beard and ruining your look.

It is caused by dried sebum oil in your hair follicles. Beard balm has the right ingredients to hydrate your skin and avoid drying that natural oil.

Beeswax

First, the beeswax that is present in beard balm gives the beard a great hold and special styling characteristics. It also helps to keep the moisture given by other ingredients. If beeswax is for holding your beard in style, then butter is for spreading.

The most common butter that is used in the balm is Shea or cocoa butter. These kinds of butter have an awesome smell. too.

Shea and Cocoa Butter

Shea and cocoa butter are an important ingredient in beard balms. They inject moisture into your skin and your beard, making it healthier and better looking. Shea also makes beard balms more spreadable. If you’ve ever had to dig a balm out with a knife, then that means there isn’t enough (or any) shea butter in it.

Thickens, and Fragrances

Beard balm also thickens and gives a slight scent to your beard. So if you have a thinner beard, then beard balm is going to be great for filling in any patchy areas. I’ve been able to use beard balm to make my beard look fuller (since I have holes in my beard if it’s too short).

Frequently Asked Questions About Beard Balms

Can I use Beard Balm and Beard Oil at the same time?

Well, the answer is definitely a YES!

Every beard is different from the next. You just have to choose the best routine that works for you. I actually recommend that you use a beard balm and beard oil at the same time.

There are different ways on how to use these products together:

  • Right after you shower, apply beard oil first at the root of your facial hair. Then, apply beard balm on your beard for an extra hold
  • You can apply the balm in the morning and the oil at night or vice versa. It depends on your own preference on when to apply the products.
  • You can also apply the oil and the balm alternately every day.

beard balm questions

How Long Should My Beard Be Before Using Beard Balm?

The most efficient time to use beard balm is when your beard is 1.5 inches or longer. The longer your beard, the better. This is because it is dense and needs something to hold and control the hairs from going messy.

Beard balms can also hold thicker beards just like the kind of result beard oil gives. This is because of the ingredients present in the balm – butter, which gives extra moisture and the beeswax that diminishes beardruff, itchiness, and dryness.

Tips Before Buying Your Beard Balms

If you want or planning to buy a beard balm, then take a look at these tips we have for you on what to look for to get the best beard balm in the market.

  • Find a beard balm that has a high concentration of beeswax as this holds way better.
  • Get yourself a balm that has all natural ingredients.
  • Check what kind of oil the balm has. You should buy balms with jojoba, argan, and grapeseed oil. They are the best natural moisturizers.
  • Best beard balms contain natural kinds of butter like Shea and Cocoa. These types of butter help to lock the moisture in and make the balm easier to spread.
  • Make sure that the balm you’ll get can fight beardruff. If it’s not then, it’s not worth it.
