The Other Side: A World Away From Your Every Day

This is our review of The Other Side hotel in North Eleuthera, Bahamas. We stayed here May 2017, and we hope you enjoy our review and consider booking your own stay.

What Is… The Other Side Hotel?

We have a ton of amazing photos that will be added to this review soon, so make sure to bookmark and check back.

The Other Side in the Bahamas is unlike any other hotel we’ve ever visited.

First of all, it’s tiny, with just 6 total rooms.

Second of all, it’s so intimate. Almost everyone on the property is staying 5 nights, and since the property is so small, you are constantly surrounded by your neighbors.

Which was actually a great thing, because it meant you got a chance to meet new people, learn about their lives, and make new friends. (For New Yorkers, when’s the last time you ever even spoke to your neighbor?)

During our time, we became friends with three of the couples and are planning a reunion soon.

Aside from the small intimate group, the meals were again unlike anything we’ve ever had before (in an amazing way).

Every night, Ben, the owner/chef/boat driver/dog walker will ask you, “are you having dinner with us tonight?”.

And our answer for every night but one was, “Of course!”.

Reason being, the food was amazing. Ben is not only a nice guy, but an excellent cook, and his food is aided by the garden on the property.

I counted maybe 12 different types of crops being grown, and they were beyond delicious. I’ve never had Caribbean arugula, but it was larger and spicier than what we have in New York.

Why you should go to The Other Side

To sum up my review, here’s why I think you might want to visit:

  • You’re looking for an escapist vacation, where you can ditch the cell phone, TV, etc.
  • You’re looking for an eco-conscious hotel that’s close to nature
  • You love amazing, simply prepared awesome food
  • You don’t mind serving yourself drinks and a laissez faire environment

If you’re looking for a full-service hotel experience, this is not the place for you, for that, I would recommend The Cove, right down the street from The Other Side.

What to Do on The Other Side

    • This is on Harbour Island, a quick 5 minute boatride, get the lobster quesadilla if it’s available (it’s worth the $44 price)

Excursions near The Other Side

You can use the jeep or buggies for free, just let the staff at The Other Side know, and it’s all yours.

  • Walk across the “Glass Window” bridge
    • It’s where the Caribbean Sea meets the Atlantic and you can see almost every shade of blue in the waters
  • Preacher’s Cave
    • Walk through this beautiful cave and take in the empty beaches on your way
  • Swim with the pigs!
    • A local in Spanish Wells dropped off 7 pigs, and now you can swim with them. It’s about a 45 minute boat ride

The Other Side Experience

Harbour island, is about 7 minutes away via our 24 hour boat service and a visit here will contemplate shopping, fine dining and late night discos as well as it’s infamous pink powdery beach.

Eleuthera is old, rugged and beautiful. It’s about relaxing on deserted beaches, paddle boarding, surfing, exploring caves and jumping in to blue holes. It’s driving with the top down in pursuit of relaxation or adventure and the sense of tranquility that both can deliver.

If you don’t feel like leaving the ‘campus’ sit or do yoga by the pool, paddle board out to see the turtles that frequent our waters, throw some seeds down in our vegetable garden or have a masseuse come to your room to release some tension.

The Other Side Property Overview

We have seven tents on property.

Four are communal tents that each have a designated purpose: reading, drinking, eating and playing.

Three are sleeping tents. They are large and spacious and have an understated grandeur. Each sleeping tent has hardwood floors, a king sized four poster bed, air conditioning, large open rain showers, 2 sofas and wifi. There is lots of space to throw stowaway children too.

The Other Side Tents Review

There are 3 tents, which are the largest rooms on the property and right on the beach and include:

  • 1 king bed
  • 2 lounging sofas
  • 2 dressing tables
  • 1 outdoor soaking tub
  • 2 bathroom vanities and a rainfall shower

The Other Side Shacks Review

There are 3 shacks on the property which are perched higher up on the hill and include:

  • 1 king bed
  • Outdoor rainfall shower

The tents are closer to the beach, bringing you 20 steps to the ocean, while the shacks are higher up giving you great views in the morning and a better breeze at night.

How Much Does The Other Side Bahamas Cost?

Tents are $750 and shacks are $550 night.

The hotel rate includes daily housekeeping and turn down service, along with daily breakfast.

Lunch and Dinner are served each day, except Sunday.

There is a 5 day minimum, but we can be flexible.

Taxes are 7.5% & Gratuity 15%

On the property, there is an honor bar, where you can make your own drinks and pick out of the fridge and pantry as if it were your own.

There’s nothing like rummaging through the fridge at 2am looking for something to eat 🙂
