More men than ever are getting plastic surgery, and here’s what they’re doing…

Plastic surgery is no new trend. Over the last ten years or so, we’ve seen the stigma that was once attached to plastic surgery fade away and it has become a relatively normal everyday discussion. Unfortunately, most people still associate plastic surgery, or the desire to change one’s body through means of surgery, to women. The truth of the matter, however, is that many men also go under the knife to change something about themselves that they don’t like.

It isn’t solely for shallow reasons, either. It is a proven fact that better looking people actually succeed more in the workplace and lead more romantically fulfilling lives. If a person feels like they are being held back by their insecurities, why not change that one thing about themselves?

Here, in no particular order, are five of the most popular plastic surgery procedures among men today.

1. Rhinoplasty

There are an incredibly large number of men who are uncomfortable with their noses. Rhinoplasty, which is the name of the procedure that alters the shape and size of one’s nose, is therefore one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures among both men and women. It isn’t just for vanity reasons, either. Many men seek out rhinoplasty after either suffering a broken nose from an old injury or if they have a deviated septum.

The procedure itself is a relatively simple one. The surgeon will make the incision either inside the nose or between the nostrils in order to reshape the inner structure. Often times, the surgeon will even take a bit of cartilage from the person’s rib or ear in order to give the nose its desired shape and size. The average cost for this procedure is somewhere between $4,500 and $6,000.

2. Liposuction

If you ask a random person on the street what they’d most like to change about themselves, chances are that they would respond with an area of ‘fat’ on their bodies. Liposuction is the procedure that removes excess fat deposits from a specific area of the body to create new body contours. It is extremely important, however, that people seeking liposuction realize that it is not a weight loss method, but rather a shaping method for the body. Most popular among men are liposuction procedures in their abdomen and flanks.

The surgeon will make a small incision in the designated area and insert a tube into the incision. The tube will be used to dislodge the fat tissues. The surgeon will then place a vacuum inside and quite literally extract the fat from your body. Costs vary dramatically, but are typically somewhere around $3,000.

3. Hair Transplants

A perhaps lesser known plastic surgery procedure over the other two, hair transplants are actually becoming quite popular among men. There are two popular techniques for a hair transplant, which is one of the only long term options for balding men seeking an alternative – FUE and FUT.

An FUE transplant is one where doctors remove strands of hair one by one from a donor, such as your back or the sides of your scalp, and transplant each individual hair onto the affected area. It causes significantly less scarring than other procedures. FUT transplants, meanwhile, are transplants where a doctor will transplant entire strips of hair as opposed to single follicles. This produces more natural looking results. Both procedures cost a pretty penny. FUE costs anywhere between $8,000 and $11,000 depending on the number of grafts required for the procedure. FUT costs anywhere from $4,000 to $9,000.

4. Botox

Although Botox can have several benefits, the most common one is that it temporarily reduces lines and wrinkles on the face. No one likes to feel like they are starting to actually look their age, and many men turn to Botox in an attempt to remedy this natural process.

Injectable Botox treatments can cost $400 per area for fillets and around $350 for the Botox itself. Keep in mind, however, that most injections only last a few months at a time and you will be responsible to continue receiving these injections if you want to stay looking a certain way.

5. Octoplasty

As with any other part of the body, many men are quite insecure about their ears. Whether they feel they are too large, stick out too much, or whatever the case may be, plastic surgery that reshapes and sizes the ears is becoming extremely popular among men. It is also extremely common for those that have misshapen ears due to a birth defect or some kind of physical trauma.

Octoplasty is relatively cheap, usually costing anywhere from $3,000 to $5,000 in the United States.
