She was born in Colombia daughter of Julio Enrique, who worked in the cattle industry, and mother Margarita, a housewife, with five siblings. She grew up as a Catholic Christian and can speak both English and Spanish. When she was young, she was often teased “toothpick” in Spanish work. She explained that in where she grew up, all kids around her are shapely or more voluptuous. To their culture, a skinny girl has no future.

However, her future completely changed one day when she was taking a stroll on a Colombian beach. A photographer discovered her and offered her if she wants to work as a model. She accepted and she began working as a runway model in Bogota. She even got the chance of being a co-host on a travel series named “Fuera de serie.” Her appearance on that show sparked her career as a Latin American star.

She has a son and it’s not a hidden fact. She got married just by the age of 18 with her childhood sweetheart and gave birth to their first son in 1992. Sadly, the marriage didn’t work out and they divorced soon after. Nevertheless, she did not regret it but rather accepted it as part of her life. She told the Sun-Sentinel, “My life as a mother has been hard, but not a nightmare. I do like all working moms do. No life is perfect. What I do, it’s part of life.”

She is noted for her amazing acting skills in the Emmy-winning sitcom “Modern Family,” where she played as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett. In an interview with USA Today, she said that she really loves the character and can even relate to her. She even voiced Carmen in the 3D sequel of the movie “Happy Feet 2.” Most of her roles are in TV shows such as “Entourage” but she also starred in movies like “Meet the Browns” and “Madea Goes to Jail.” Her recent work was with the Farrelly brothers’ in “The Three Stooges.”

In 2012, Forbes magazine said Sofia Vergara was the highest-earning woman in U.S. television with an estimated take of $19 million.

She now resides in Los Angeles with her son, Manolo. Reports say that she is engaged to her businessman boyfriend Nick Loeb.
