Finally, New Yorkers Will Have a World Class Airport

La Guardia Airport, whose dilapidated terminals and long, unenviable record of traveler delays have made it a target of jokes and complaints for decades, will be completely rebuilt by 2021, Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo of New York announced last Monday.

So what are we gonna get? Besides this beautiful rendering

The entire cost is supposed to be $4 billion, which we can almost guarantee will have overages (based on the WTC tower being $4 billion over budget).

  • The first phase of the plan — will move the Central Terminal Building 600 feet closer to Grand Central Parkway to open up 2 miles of extra space for planes (it will be displace the parking lot/garage currently occupying the space)
  • Room for a direct subway connection from Manhattan (no subway plans announced yet, but the N train would be a nice extension)
  • A ferry dock will be added where the Marine Air Terminal is currently
