In May 1955, Berry ventured out to Chicago, where he met Muddy Waters, who proposed he contact Leonard Chess, of Chess Records. Berry thought his blues music would be more enthusiasm to Chess, however, incredibly it was a customary nation fiddle tune, “Ida Red”, as recorded by Bob Wills, that stood out enough to be noticed. Chess had seen the musicality and blues advertise shrivel and was hoping to move past it, and he thought Berry may be the craftsman for that reason.
In late 1957, Berry partook in Alan Freed’s “Greatest Show of Stars for 1957”, visiting the United States with the Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, and others. He was a visitor on ABC’s Guy Mitchell Show, singing his hit tune “Shake “n” Roll Music”. The hits proceeded from 1957 to 1959

Soon after his introduction to the world, the family (he had three sisters and two siblings) moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where they carried on with a white collar class life. Berry sang in a congregation choir and a school merriment club and took up the guitar in middle school, figuring out how to play all alone.
