Days of hailing a cab are really over. Car service companies such as Uber and InstaCab have made it both easy and inexpensive to book your own ride. We reviewed the New York City based Uber before and this time we look into InstaCab, now known as Summon car service. The company has re-branded their service and lowered the prices for personal drivers.
San Francisco based Summon is a newer on-demand car service that competes with Uber, Lyft and SideCar. Its differentiating factor is a hybrid approach to ride-sharing. They’ve managed to combine both a taxi and a peer-to-peer ride share experiences with having drivers from taxi as well as ride-sharing community. Summon seeks to provide more supply, safety and reliability. The advantage before other car services is also more available rides.
Taxi ride includes a $1 charge on top of the usual cost of the ride, and personal drivers costing up to 30% less, based on per-mile and per-minute costs. Even though Lyft and Uber recently lowered their prices, Summon still seams a bit cheaper than the competitors. Another good news is their plan to expand to other cities, Los Angeles, Boston and New York will get Summon services in the following months.
