Quality, Innovation and the Perfect Fit: Ledbury

The perfect, I mean absolutely perfect shirt is hard to find.  It’s too long, it’s too short, the arms are too wide.  And when you take your tie off and undo a button you are either still choking or it looks like you forgot to finish getting dressed.

These are things you learn to deal with over the years, you either get it tailored or work with what you’ve got.  Until you stumble upon the company that does it all right: Ledbury.

The Start of Ledbury

In 2008 two Oxford grad students by way of Virgin realized what they had been missing out on in the US for so many years: the tailoring of Savile Row and the clean-cut English look that comes with it.  Due to the poor economy at the time, these two grad students, Paul and Paul, decided to forget about the traditional career path to chase a dream instead, and we are damn glad they did.

After having an apprenticeship with one of London’s great tailors the two men knew what gift they were going to bring back stateside, their love of shirting.

Paul and Paul moved back to Richmond, Virginia where they turned an old tobacco factory into what is now their headquarters for our favorite shirts.  Thank you, Paul’s for realizing the path that was right for you and bringing the US some of the best shirts on the market today, lovers of proper men’s clothing everywhere appreciate it.

The Shirts

Ledbury offers three styles of shirts: slim fit, classic fit and their short run shirting, which is a different limited edition line they release each month.  Here’s a look at the different styles with a brief explanation of how each fit is perfect in their own way.

Slim Fit

Their slim fit shirts (of which there are currently 59 styles) are available for $115 – $185 and are just as perfect with a suit as they are with a pair of slim-cut jeans.  These shirts are cut with slightly less fabric in the waist and torso than you are probably used to, creating a slimmer, more flattering shape.

A few of our favorite picks from the slim fit collection…

The Cunningham, $145

The Olive Starks Gingham, $145

The White Poplin, $135

The Blue and Brown Starks Twill, $145

The Dark Grey Cullen, $145

Classic Fit

For the man that just isn’t quite cut for the slim fit, Ledbury offers a slightly looser fitting cut, the classic fit.  Made to fit virtually all shapes and sizes, these shirts are perfect for anyone who wants a little extra room.

Like the slim fit collection, the classic fits have plenty of styles to choose from and are available from $115 – $165.

The Rudasill hunting Shirt, $165

The Royal Blue Huntsman, $165

Short Run Shirting

With a limited number of shirts made each month, the short run shirting line is always changing.  Last month’s line was full of tuxedo shirts and black tie acceptable formalwear.  This month, Ledbury is helping us cope with the cold with their winter line, featuring lots of moleskin, twill and herringbone.
